To Whom It May Concern: Please accept this letter as a recommendation for both the character and football playing ability of Corey Richards. Corey was a three-year starter for me at the University of Charleston. During that time he established himself as a leader and as a player who made game-winning plays. Due to Corey’s knowledge of the game and the high regard with which both players and coaches hold him, we hired Corey as an assistant coach for the 2008 season. He has been invaluable as a teacher in the secondary. His experience in our scheme has been a great resource for players and fellow coaches. I extend my highest recommendation for Corey as an excellent football player and a man of great character and integrity. Feel free to contact me regarding Corey at any time. Sincerely, Carey Baker Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator University of Charleston Charleston, West Virginia Office: 304.340.3731 Cell: 304.444.5520 |

To Whom This May Concern, Corey has been an outstanding student athlete during his time here at the University of Charleston. He has displayed an excellent work ethic, and has been a positive role model for our younger student athletes. Corey was a three year starter for our football team and a Co-Captain for our Men’s Track and Field Team. Corey is known for his leadership role in our defensive secondary where he earned honors as best defensive back (2007), and his work ethic has inspired other sprinters to work hard on throughout every workout to be the best in race they run. I had the opportunity to play with Corey my senior year and as my teammate Corey inspired me to always do more, and shared with me a piece of advice that has stuck with me to this day. Corey told me, “It is not what you say to someone, but, how you say what you say, that causes their reaction.” As a teammate Corey always made me bring my A game, he transferred in from Northwood University where they won their conference and earned a championship. Corey displayed qualities of a champion and has done his part in sharing those qualities with our team here at the University of Charleston. His advice helped me the most my first year coaching as the Graduate Assistant. On the football team Corey was a great senior captain, leading us to an 8-3 season, and tying the best record in football at the university since football was reinstated back in 2003. He also earned the Bridge Builder Award and the Ace of the Year at defensive back. On the team Corey was the catalyst to a number of come from behind victories, including a game winning interception he caught during the final drive of the game against Seton Hill University. As a player Corey was known for his hard hitting and sound coverage. Like any defensive back there were times when Corey would get beat, but he would always respond on the next play. An attribute that most college defensive backs do not pick up, but with Corey, getting a ball completed on his side of the field just made him play harder and faster. He proved to be such an asset through his work ethic and game day performance that we as a staff decided to hire him as a graduate assistant. On the track team Corey was coming off an injury from football and was not supposed to be able to compete until outdoor season. He went to rehab twice a day until he was back to about 80%, and even though he was not cleared to compete in our first indoor meet, we did terrible and he came back the next week and decided to run even though he could not give his all. His work ethic and determination to finish every workout (to be able to compete) inspired other sprinters on my team to not let him outwork them. The nest meet Corey clocked a personal record in the 55m at 7.1 seconds. Though it was not the winning time at the meet, it was the 3rd fastest on our team, and he earned a spot on our 4 x 200m indoor team, kicking a three-year starter off the team until he was able to work hard and earn his spot back. As a former teammate I think Corey has the ability to play at the next level weather it be NFL, Arena or overseas because he has the determination of a champion, and does not let anything stop him from accomplishing his goals, or giving his all. His leadership as a senor has helped younger players pickup his work ethic and continue the tradition started by my senior team, and carried over to his senior team. As our new graduate assistant I believe that his addition to our staff will help bridge the gap between the older coaches on our staff and the young student athletes here at the University of Charleston.
