COACHING PHILOSOPHY: Successful teams are those teams which are made up of good people who are quality citizens.
My program has also been character based and made up of people who put team goals and objectives ahead of personal
expectations. Players must understand that hard work, dedication and perseverance will provide them with the potential
for success. Offensive and defensive schemes which highlight the skills and aptitudes of the individual players will be
deployed. As a coach, I always ask the players to do what they can do well. It is important to adapt to the players
strengths. Speed, quickness, athletic ability and intelligence are key qualities I look for when constructing a team.
Coach Message: I am an educator and coach who has supervised staff and influenced students at all levels of education.
The bulk of my career has been spent as an athletic administrator and head football coach at St. John's University. While
in that position my main focus was to ensure that all student athletes had the opportunity to gain a positive experience
while participating in sports. I know what it takes to build and maintain a winning tradition. In 1978 I started the football
program at St. John's and saw it rise from a fledgling program to that of a consistent conference championship calibre
team. Our teams at St. John's have had national statistical leaders on offense, defense and in the kicking game. We won
with prolific quarterbacks, or teams that featured top running games, or with dominating defensive units which displayed
tremendous team speed and tenacity.
Coaching is teaching. As a life long learner, I was able to impart my knowledge to my players while letting them know that
I cared about them as individuals. My goal was always to help each player reach their potential as a person and as an
athlete.
My goal is for the team I coach to be source of pride for its players, fans and the city we represent. Successful past
practices and traditions of the organization will be emulated while new ideas and methods will be employed to traverse
the changing landscape of European American Football.
