An old coach of mine once said that football is the greatest game in the world because it is the ultimate team
sport. There is no other sport played where men depend on each other like they do in football. Nearly my entire life
has been spent on the football field. As a coach’s son, I had no choice but to go to practice with my father. I have
been in love with the game ever since. There was nowhere else I wanted to be than around the players I idolized. I
could not wait until I was old enough to play.

My parents allowed me to play Pop Warner football in the sixth grade. I knew nearly every kid that made the team
wanted to be the quarterback, but that didn’t stop me from trying out for quarterback as well. Lucky for me I was the
best out of the bunch and won the job. I fell in love with the quarterback position that year, and made sure I worked
hard enough to win the quarterback position on every team I played for in the future.

I was fortunate enough to attend some of the best quarterback camps in the country. Jeff Tedford from Cal and
Tom Martinez from the College of San Mateo (Tom Brady’s personal coach) are two of the camps I attended each
year. I developed a great respect for both of them and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about the
position. I became a three year Varsity starter and three- time All Conference selection in high school.

After my senior year of high school football, I realized that big schools were not looking for 5’11 quarterbacks. At
the time I felt that Junior College football was not for me, and coached the freshman team at the high school I had
just graduated from. Coaching allowed me to see the game from different angles. I learned about preparation,
leadership, schemes, and the psychological side of football. More importantly, it made me realize I was not done
playing. I went to Sierra College to enroll in school and speak with the head football coach.

By the time August came around again I won the starting Quarterback position on a team that went undefeated the
previous year. We went undefeated again and played in the Capital Shrine Bowl. I was selected as the All-
Conference quarterback in the Mid-Empire Conference and the Most Valuable Player of the Shrine Bowl.

My second and final year playing at Sierra College was also successful. The team went 9-2 and played in the U.S.
Bank Holiday Bowl against Junior College Powerhouse Butte College. Sierra beat Butte that season for the first
time in school history. I was again selected as the All Conference quarterback, and also the Most Valuable
Offensive Player in the conference.

After playing at Sierra, I came back to coach Running Backs and Quarterbacks. Coaching at the college level has
been an incredible learning experience, but, as it did before, sparked my desire to play again. Over the course of
my career as a quarterback and a coach, I have realized that football and life go hand in hand. Why do I love the
game? It isn’t the stats or the touchdown passes or the big wins. It is about the men that you share those
moments with. It is stepping into the huddle when it is 4th and 1 in a tight game and looking into the eyes of
teammates willing to do whatever it takes to get that yard. Football brings people together in ways that no other
sport can.

I take great pride in being the best possible football player and person I can be. Whether I am in the classroom,
the workplace, or the football field, I have always done whatever it takes to be a winner.
